Slade Allen-Ankins, a PhD candidate from the Murray Darling Freshwater Research Centre/La Trobe University has been awarded a CSIRO Flagship top-up postgraduate scholarship. The National Research Flagships offer Postgraduate Scholarships to high quality students to work on a project relevant to Flagship research. Slade, under the supervision of Dr Rick Stoffels (MDFRC/CSIRO) and Dr Peter Pridmore (La Trobe University) has been investigating how changing thermal (temperature) regimes affect the health of two species of blackfish (river and two-spined). This research will assist in predicting how local (e.g. environmental water releases, riparian clearing and restoration) and regional (climate change) drivers might affect the long-term viability of each species.
