Foodwebs: links between carbon, oxygen and zooplankton

Foodwebs: links between carbon, oxygen and zooplankton

Ostracoda

In work conducted under the National Environemental Research Program in 2013, the impacts of hypoxic blackwater on zooplankton were investigated. The larger project was about the potential benefits and disbenefits of environmental watering. The capacity for zooplankton to survive and/or recover from periods of low oxygen availability, which can result from a sudden influx of water to a previously dry habitat, has ramifications for the whole freshwater foodweb.
