Dr Ben Gawne - Ecosystem Ecologist

Ben Gawne is the Project Leader of the Murray-Darling Basin Environmental Water Knowledge and Research (MDB EWKR) Project and the Long Term Intervention Monitoring Project (LTIM).

Ben is primarily located at The Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre, Wodonga, Victoria, but he spends significant time at the Univeristy of Canberra, ACT, Australia. UCAN are new collaborators of the MDFRC Joint Venture and Ben's new role as Professor of Environmental Flows is a part of their contribution.

Ben Gawne’s research topics of special interest include:

  • Lowland river ecology
  • Flow ecology
  • Aquatic invertebrate ecology
  • Primary productivity and decomposition

Background

Ben was Director of MDFRC from 2002 - 2015, after a time as the Officer in Charge of the Mildura Laboratory.
